The Forest at Duke

Forest at Duke’s award winning Health Center, opened in February 2023, is home to Memory Care, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing in our 90 bed household model of care. The Health Center is a part of a vibrant continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the heart of Durham, North Carolina.
 
Following the Small House Model of Care which prioritizes resident choice and patient-centered care, The Forest’s CNA to resident ratio boasts a wonderful 1 CNA to 5 residents. Nurses pass medications to 10 residents and oversee a floor of up to 20 residents.

What you’ll be doing…
  • Assists in interviewing, selecting, onboarding and training new nursing staff.
  • Serves as Infection Preventionist and as Quality Assurance and Performance Nurse.
  • Serves as the MDS Nurse for 4 Medicare Certified Beds and oversees education for nurses completing long term care MDS.
  • Ensures that all nursing Team Members are performing their respective duties in accordance with written policies and procedures.
  • Assists in team member disciplinary actions
  • Participates in surveys and inspections by governing agencies.
  • Provides daily reports and recommendations to the Director of Nursing concerning department operations.
  • Remains up-to-date on HIPAA training requirements, and understands the importance of proper handling and disposal of ePHI and follows HIPAA regulations.
  • Periodically reviews and makes recommendations for revisions of written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, objectives, and philosophies.
  • Maintains professional competence, as well as current licenses, through participation in continuing education, seminars, and other training programs.
What we’re looking for in this critical role…
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the State of North Carolina.
  • Previous experience as a Charge Nurse or Supervisor preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology (SPICE) certified (can be certified after hire)
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical assessment practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Able to assist in planning, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of nursing personnel.
  • Ability to recognize and assess signs and symptoms of residents’ conditions and to provide intervention or referral as appropriate.
  •  Spice training preferred
