General Manager of Dining Services
 

The Forest At Duke (TFAD) is a vibrant non-profit continuing care retirement community (CCRC) with over 400 residents enjoying life at The Forest. Our mission is to provide a caring, responsible community that fosters the independence of residents of retirement age by enhancing their capability to lead purposeful, active, healthy, and secure lives. We strive to be both the Preferred Provider of Service for older adults and the Employer of Choice in the Greater Durham area.

The Director of Dining Services (DDS) is responsible for the total operation of the Dining Services Department, providing dynamic leadership and strategic vision for all dining areas and staff. The position is a key member of the Leadership team and is expected to partner with all operational components of the organization. This position reports directly to the President/CEO.

The Dining Director will:

  • Provide direct supervision for new and existing dining and food service venues throughout our community, including Independent Living dining, Health Services dining, Community Center dining, guest programs, catering and special events, multi-venue restaurant service, delivery and takeout services, and fine dining.
  • Be responsible for all Dining Services, managing multiple venues and menus, and leading kitchen and front-line staff in ensuring our dining experiences are world class with an outstanding level of cuisine and service.
  • Create and nurture a Dining Services culture of excellence, accountability, engagement, continuous improvement, and teamwork while building a strong Dining leadership team with the Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chefs and the Dining Managers & Supervisors.
  • Ensure Dining Services is managed with fiscal responsibility and meets all compliance requirements, including nutrition, food safety and cleanliness, working conditions, and other CCRC-based regulatory components.

The successful candidate must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred in:
      • Hospitality Management
      • Business Administration
      • Culinary Arts (with operational/business experience)
      • Nutrition or Dietetics (with management experience)
    • Associate’s degree acceptable with significant relevant leadership experience
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and experience with Dining Service operations, employee management, public relations, and all applicable Federal and appropriate State regulations. Experience specific to a CCRC is helpful but not required.
