Security Officer – Full-time

Tuesday - Saturday: 3:30pm - 12:00am


The Forest at Duke’s mission is to provide a caring, responsible community that fosters the independence of residents of retirement age by enhancing their capability to lead purposeful, active, healthy and secure lives. Moreover, we strive to be the preferred provider of services for older adults in the Durham community.

The Security Officer is responsible for providing necessary security measures for a safe environment for those who both live and work at The Forest at Duke. This position reports directly to the Security & Transportation Manager, or designee.

Key Position Qualifications Include:
 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid NC Driver’s license (must be able to drive community vehicles).
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or the ability to obtain within 30 days post hire).
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and thorough reports, including daily activity and incident logs.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to stand/sit/walk for extended periods of time, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work exterior posts in inclement weather.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls from residents, vendors, team members and follow department procedures to properly handle the situation.
  • Basic typing skills & computer knowledge.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate orally in English.
  • Must be able to maintain positive and professional relationships and interactions with residents, guests, vendors, contractors and staff.
  • Ability to provide flexibility in schedule for evening and weekend hours when the need arises.

  • Ability to manage several projects, tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be dedicated to customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with everyone, at various social levels and across diverse cultures. Must be personable and approachable.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • This position is considered “Weather Essential”. During extreme or severe weather conditions, all ”weather essential” personnel are expected to make every effort to report work as scheduled.
