Service Manager


The Forest at Duke’s mission is to provide a caring, responsible community that fosters the independence of residents of retirement age by enhancing their capability to lead purposeful, active, healthy and secure lives. Moreover, we strive to be the preferred provider of services for older adults in the Durham community.

The Service Manager is responsible for overall service in the main dining room, health care, personal care, cafe, Taproot, Greenwoods and special functions, operating within established objectives, standards, policies, and procedures. This position assists in the maintenance of sound inter-department relations and the integrating of the dining service department with the facility plan of operation, and manages team members within the framework of team-ship, The Forest Way behaviors, and empowerment.


Key Position Qualifications Include:

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of staff training, safe, sanitary food handling procedures, preparation methods, merchandising, and supervision
  • Certified Dietary Manager preferred
  • Must be able to maintain positive relationships and interactions with residents, staff, family members, and guests
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Key Performance Success Indicators Include:

  • Assisted in providing quality food and an enjoyable dining experience for residents, guests, and staff
  • Effectively supervised service team members during meal periods
  • Supervised the scheduling of special functions and insured that these functions were serviced correctly. (i.e. catering request, private dinners, banquets, etc.)
  • Coordinated and ensure that cash controls are in place in the Cafe and other areas where cash is handled. Participated in the prediction, planning, monitoring, and evaluation of cost programs
  • Conducting and documenting weekly "quality assurance" meetings with service team members.
