The Health & Wellness Activities Assistant is responsible for assisting the Activities Programs Manager in implementing and evaluating a recreation program that is based on ongoing assessment of individual needs, ability levels, and interests. The ideal candidate will be outgoing and thrive off building meaningful relationships with and delivering exceptional customer service to residents, guests and co-workers. This position is paramount in contributing to the overall quality of life at The Forest at Duke. This position reports directly to the Activities Programs Manager.

Key Position Qualifications Include:

  • One or more years of prior experience working with seniors preferred
  • Must have the ability to have patience, tact, enthusiasm, and positive attitude toward the elderly
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekends, when program schedule deems necessary
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate orally in English

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Assists in designing and implementing a balanced schedule of individual and group activities for health service residents based upon the therapeutic recreation plans
  • Assists in planning a diversified goal-oriented therapeutic recreation program which will contribute to the achievement of meaningful, measureable goals that have been adapted to the ability levels of each participant and is structured to maximize therapeutic benefits to participants  
  • Informs residents of upcoming events and stimulates interest in appropriate activities
  • Uses community resources, encourages patient/resident community involvement and participation on trips
  • Adheres to The Forest at Duke’s employment and confidentiality agreements, remains up-to-date on HIPAA training requirements, understands the importance of proper handling and disposal of ePHI, and agrees to follow HIPPA regulations
