The working title for this position is Accounting Manager. 

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and financial activities of The Forest at Duke. This position provides supervision of the staff providing accounting, billing, and payroll services.  Additionally, this position has daily contact with residents, team members, vendors and others, and serves as a member on various strategic and operations teams. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Pay rate is low – mid 60’s (based on qualifications).

Qualifications for the Accounting Manager position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with three – five years’ experience managing day-to-day accounting operations.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) not required; but would be desirable.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in accounting functions such as taxes, payroll, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial statement preparation.
  • Knowledge of regulations as pertains to payroll and insurance billing.
  • Competent with using a personal computer.
  • Experience managing financial software packages in all accounting and financial areas and ability to train others.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent math and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to process data in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines through self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage several projects, tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must have excellent communications skills in English both oral and written.
  • Must be able to interface with all levels of team members and residents in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to work with others in a team environment and may be assigned to be a team leader on a project.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must be dedicated to customer service.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews census reports, prepares occupancy report, enters all census moves in actuarial software.
  • Oversees monthly billing process to ensure statements are processed accurately and timely.
  • Reviews accounts receivable aging to ensure proper posting of receipts and to identify open items that may require follow-up or collection efforts.
  • Oversees and reviews claims, ensures proper rates are billed, reconciles and reviews accounts receivable, verifies insurance coverage, maintains cost report files.
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes and updates.
  • Assists residents with questions regarding insurance as it pertains to services provided by The Forest at Duke.
  • Reviews accounts payable register and oversees check printing.
  • Reviews outstanding payables; prepares yearly report for Escheat.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in state sales tax regulations and ensures proper filing of monthly tax payment and each 6-month refund request.
  • Oversees bi-weekly payroll process to ensure timely preparation.
  • Reviews to ensure proper administration of 403 (b) Plan in regards to payroll deductions, matching, remitting contributions, etc.
  • Maintains time clock system and financial system parameters.
  • Assists in training staff on any changes to time clock system or reporting
  • Keeps abreast of regulations to ensure proper filing of tax returns, etc.
  • Records all month-end journal entries, prepares all reconciliations, prepares monthly financial statements and maintains monthly financial book.
  • Ensures timely completion of end-of-month closing process for distribution of unaudited financial statements.
  • Cross-trained as “Super User” of financial accounting system
