Description

The Medication Aide will be responsible for performing the task of medication administration to nursing home residents.

Qualifications for the Medication Aide position include:

  • Must be a nursing assistant I and a medication aide in acceptable standing with DHSR-HCPR.
  • Must have successfully completed a MA course (twenty four hours), approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, passed the state approved MA competency evaluation and is currently listed on the "State MA Registry"
  • Must follow the policies and procedures of the facility and applicable state/federal regulations related to administering medication to residents
  • Accurately administers and records the administration of medications to residents utilizing the six rights of medication administration
  • Reports any accidents or incidents observed
  • Administers medication that have been ordered by the physician and that are listed on the Medication Administration Record (MAR)
  • Maintains security of the meds, med cart and keys
  • Identifies accurately a resident's identification before administering any medications.
  • Reports any unusual symptoms and/or behavior of the resident to the licensed nurse for assessment and follow up as indicated
  • Maintains the resident's medical information confidential under the protected health information (PHI) and the health information probability accountability act (HIPAA).
  • Performs and documents any direct care, within their scoop of practice as a NA I or MA, provided to residents on the resident flow record
  • Adheres to The Forest at Duke's employment and confidentiality agreements, remains up-to-date on HIPAA training requirements, understands the importance of proper handling and disposal of ePHI, and agrees to follow HIPAA regulations
